Santa Ynez Valley: More Value, Less Costly than Napa

Just started up my computer this morning and noticed an article on MSNBC about recession-proof travel and Dollar-Friendly Destinations. The only U.S. destination listed is the Santa Ynez Valley — the area in which Solvang is located. Wow, Solvang! It’s not only a spectacular area, a delightful little town, but an excellent value for your travel dollar.

Beautiful Valley of Vineyards

I mentioned in my last post that there are 6 or 7 wine trails in the area surrounding Solvang. Lots of decisions to make about which vineyards and wineries to visit. We only had time for one but are eager to go back and explore more of the vineyards and the area. The Hasten House Inn & Spa can help you visit a wide range of wineries — 17 in fact. And you won’t even have to drive! That’s just part of its Wine Getaway Package.

Wine Getaway for Two
Check out this destination travel value — Hadsten House Wine Getaway Package. Two nights in a luxurious inn, complimentary breakfast, wine tour to 17 vineyards/wineries. The total for 2 people is just $490 for weekday visits. This is the inn we stayed at and loved. Great location, too, for exploring Solvang. Check out my last post for more info.

Oh, and while you’re in Solvang, look up Madame Rosinka. Say “hello” from Tish and Ginny. We continue to be blown away at her accuracy as our lives unfold day by day. She reads palms, tarot cards and is a psychic. We loved her!

We visited a few wineries in Santa Ynez back in 2006 when we were staying in Santa Barbara for a few days. We found the experience charming and very low-key. Solvang reminded me of Helen, GA… another German-ish town right here in the USA. :)

We visited the area as well, but stayed in Buellton, at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott. Buellton is about 5 minutes from Solvang on 246. I was able to find a Wine & Horses Package online, and saved a lot of money by going during the week. It was so delightful to tour all five of the little towns, as they all had their own personality and charm. We had a great time as the tour was very picturesque, and kudos to all of those at the Santa Ynez Marriott & Wine and Horse Tours. We definitely recommend it if you are looking to take in the area.
I just looked up the tour company as well. - http://www.wineandhorsetours.com/tours/tour1.php
