Tour New York’s Central Park in a PediCab
What’s a “PediCab?” (A rickshaw vehicle for 2 passengers powered by a bicycle) This is a great way to tour Central Park — best of all, you don’t have to pedal the bicycle. You just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Had seen them in Lower Manhattan on previous trips. Toyed with the idea of taking one to a Broadway theater one evening, but we gave it a pass in favor of a taxi. But on this trip, we saw dozens of these cute little vehicles parked at the edge of the park at Columbus Circle (Southwest corner of Central Park where Broadway, Central Park South [59th Street] Central Park West meet)and decided to give it a whirl.
The pedicab we chose was driven by a young women named Hicran.
She is a an English major at a NY university, a resident of Istanbul, who gave us a great tour. Her English was excellent and her knowledge of the history of the park, its uses and who lives where around the park was amazing. The 50-minute tour cost us $55 and we gave her a $10 tip. She was an excellent tour guide and she really had to pedal to get up the many hills in the park. We were glad it was not us having to haul two women around behind a bike!
Several Pedicab Services in NYC
It is my impression that the pedicab drivers may own their own vehicles. Not sure. Here’s a list of these services in New York. Use it to find out more about the pedicab service and where they operate in NYC.

TIP:
A little research after the fact showed me that pedicabs are independently owned and not so regulated as taxis and handsome cabs. Therefore, the fares can be quite a bit less — typically $1/minute. And they’re totally more fun.
